Thirty-seven Mumbai pilgrims return after Nepal flood disruption
A group of 37 pilgrims landed in Mumbai after flash floods stranded them during a journey that included holy sites near Manasarovar.
The travellers arrived at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport at 5.11 p.m. on August 29 aboard IndiGo flight 6E1158. Legislators Manisha Chaudhary and Bharati Lavekar and Vinod Shelar greeted them at Arrival Gate B, where relatives had gathered.
Most members travelled together with a spiritual teacher. Families described relief at the reunion, while some said they had remained confident the group would return safely despite disrupted communications and travel.
Dinesh Bhosle, who travelled with his wife Pooja and his sister-in-law, said illness among several pilgrims forced the party to change its original schedule. Their earlier itinerary would have placed them in an area hit by the flash floods. Bhosle said the delay therefore kept the group away from danger.
The pilgrims thanked the Maharashtra government for assistance with their return. Their arrival ended an unexpectedly difficult period in what began as a religious journey.
