Thuram set to miss France's World Cup qualifiers with hamstring knock
Marcus Thuram is likely to miss France's upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers with Azerbaijan and Iceland after Inter Milan said Wednesday that the striker has a hamstring injury.
Thuram starred in Inter's 3-0 cruise past Slavia Prague in the Champions League on Tuesday, but suffered the knock shortly before his backheeled pass led to the Italians netting their third goal.
Inter, who sit fifth in Serie A, said that tests carried out on Wednesday "showed a muscle strain in his left hamstring", adding that "his condition will be reassessed next week".
Thuram will miss Inter's Serie A match with Cremonese at the San Siro on Saturday, with Italian media reporting that the 28-year-old could be out for as long as a month.
France coach Didier Deschamps will announce on Thursday his squad for two Group D fixtures, with Azerbaijan visiting Paris on October 10 and Iceland hosting Les Bleus three days later.
Deschamps was already without Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue and Manchester City's Rayan Cherki due to injuries.
France lead four-team Group D with a perfect six points from their first two matches, three more than second-placed Iceland.
